Here is a picture of our troop kapers chart. I do not have all of the paper dolls back or laminated yet, but this picture shows a few of the girl's dolls on the chart. They are affixed with Velcro. It was so much fun to make!! I made the picture in PowerPoint and had it printed on a board at UPS.

Cookie Sales
This will be my first cookie sale since I was a Girl Scout myself!! We start our sales on January 2nd and will be having our cookie meeting on the 3rd. I got some great advice from a leader message board about helping the girls learn about money. I did get some play money for them to work with and we will be working out of the Daisy Guide for Girls on that information. We will be working on some of the literacy leaves. I am gathering some information from our council website for the parents as well, since some of them are new to Girl Scouts. Some have older daughters in scouts so they are familiar with sales. I am excited about all of the things that my cookie mom and myself have come up with! Ready for these girls to set their goals and help them achieve them!

Trip Got Postponed
We had some bad weather last night and had to postpone our field trip.
I am sad to disappoint the girls but we value their lives more than a
field trip. Hopefully we can do this in the new year!

Flat Stacie/Juliette
I am really wanting to do this with my girls! I just started reading
about it and I am getting more and more excited about this! I am
hoping we can start in the new year. I would really like them to get
to all 50 states! I am not sure how I would divide that up over 6
girls but I am sure it will work out. I can't wait to talk to them
about it and see how they feel.
UPDATE: There is actually a Flat Stanley website and App (you can call your "flat" person whatever you'd like so you can still do the Flat Juliette) and you can post her adventures online! You just need to sign up for a free account. We may do this if we do the Flat Juliette! The site is www.flatstanley.com

Excited!!
Tomorrow we are going on yet another field trip. We are going to an
animal shelter to learn about pet care! I think this one may be the
most fun the girls have so far. I cannot wait to see all of the
animals. It's times like this that I am glad that I rent my home and
cannot have pets. I would be bringing a bunch of animals home with me!
This will earn them a pet care patch. I am not sure if we will use
this as part of their Zinni petal or not. My coleaders and I may
discuss this later. Cannot wait for tomorrow!!

Why Do I Do This?
There are a lot of people that ask me why do I do what I do? I work
full time, I have a husband and two children. I get home late, I do
not get a lot of sleep. I get a lot of people asking me why add on
something extra to your plate that you do not get paid for? I could
think of no other answer but, I do it for the girls!
Yes I volunteered to be a leader before I had any other girls but my
daughter, but I am doing this for all girls. I used to be a girl scout
and learned a lot of leadership skills. We did fun things while we
learned. My daughter said she wanted to join Girl Scouts and I wanted
to be involved. I decided what better way than to start my own troop.
This is my first time being on the other side of Girl Scouts. My first
time being the facilitator. I am hoping to be able to be a big part of
helping girls grow and giving them a positive experience.
My ultimate goal in life is to be a teacher and change lives. I am
hoping that being a Girl Scout leader can help me fulfill one part of
that goal. I want every girl in my troop to know they are special and
they can be anything they want to be. Of course their parents are
teaching them the same things at home, I just hope to be another
helping hand.
After they earn a petal or patch and I see how happy they are that
they acheived something, and also that they learned something, THAT is
why I do this!!!

Fifth Meeting December 2012- Yoga
K the Yoga Lady came by and did yoga with the girls. She brought some
animal friends as helpers to help the girls understand how to do each
pose and why the pose has its name. Everyone did a fantastic job! They
were even very creative when it was time to make up their own poses.
For doing this activity they have earned the Yoga patch. (Which is
unfortunately a sew-on. I am sorry parents!) We plan to do this again
in the spring so that any girls that missed out can have a chance at
it. Fun fun!

Investiture Ceremony
We had our investiture ceremony and the girls did GREAT! They earned
their Daisy pins!! I made a life size daisy and each girl had her own
petal to stand on as their "stage" in front of their families.

They danced to our Girl Scout Daisy song and received their
certificates. I also awarded them the petals and patches they had not
received when I last saw them. Everyone then ate and socialized. It
was a fun time and I thank you all for coming and I am also grateful
for my other leaders who helped make this event go well!

Field Trip November 2012- Fire Station
The girls took a field trip to the fire station for a tour with a few
girls from another daisy troop. We got to take a look at the fire
station and learn how some of the equipment works. We also learned
that most of the fire fighters actually live there! We even got to go
inside the fire truck and look around. The girls took a picture with
the Fire Chief in their new fire hats. It was really a lot of fun and
we learned a lot!

Field Trip November 2012- Police Station
The girls took a field trip to the State College Police Department for
a tour with a few girls from another daisy troop. The girls learned
about what the officers do and how they used their equipment. We got
to see a holding cell, evidence lockers, and they even got to see a
police motorcycle!! Our tour guide was great! At the end the girls got
a book, a tattoo that said Junior Police Officer and a puppy sticker!

Fourth Meeting November 2012
Nothing too eventful happened this meeting. E was the snack person and
we just planned for our investiture ceremony. The girls practiced
their Daisy song and dance and then they made invitations. We did have
to kick parents out of the room for the dance practice :-)

Field Trip October 2012
This was a second way the girls earned their Lupe and Sunny petals :-)
We went on a field trip and spent a few hours with the Campus Girl
Scouts. We read the Lupe story from the Daisy Girl's Guide. The girls
then answered questions about the story. After that they acted out
some ways to be honest and fair. Our girls decided to share a tunic
with each other. Then all the girls played Red Light, Green Light and
Duck, Duck, Goose. Even though not all the girls knew each other, they
all were very fair making sure each girl got a turn!!! Another part to
this was later on each girl got to play 7 UP. (One of my FAVORITE
games!). They did such a great job as well with this being honest by
not peeking and fair by making sure everyone got to play. So proud of
these girls!!

For the Sunny Petal, the girls listened to the Sunny story from the
Daisy Girl's Guide and answered questions. They then all began to
create a mural on the wall about the story. They did such a great job!
It came out beautiful!!! They were friendly and helpful by not pushing
each other out of the way to make room for their drawings and by
helping clean up . Then later when it was time for snack, the girls
all cleaned up their own space which was VERY helpful!!!

Third Meeting October 2012
This meeting we worked on our Lupe Honest and Fair petal. We watched a
movie. There were some technical difficulties at first, but we did get
it working. We watched Puff the Magic Dragon in the Land of the Living
Lies. In this movie a little girl named Sandy told lies all the time
and in the end realized it was always better to tell the truth. The
girls answered questions about it in the middle and afterwards.
The next thing they did was play the Honest Game. One side of the room
was the truth and the other side was a lie. The girls made a statement
and the girls voted on whether it was the truth or a lie. Then they
went to the appropriate side. None of the girls ended up on the lie
side!!! And they also talked about what it means to be fair while in
our daisy circle. This meeting M was the snack person. Next meeting
the snack person is E. Next meeting will be pretty laid back.

Second Meeting October 2012
We had an eventful meeting! The girls made their paper dolls for our
kaper chart. The dolls they made, they pieced together to make them
represent themselves. They did such a great job and finished them
quicker than what I had anticipated!

We went on a little journey around the building. We went to look in
the room that we will be using for our investiture ceremony. We wanted
to get ideas on how to decorate. Funny thing was, we couldn't find the
lights! Then the little bit of light we had turned off which resulted
in the funniest thing ever. The girls ran out and ended up under the
table in our room hiding from fictional monsters hehe. They are too
funny.

Since we are still getting girls trickling in, you will all get a
chance to complete your paper doll so we can put you up on our kaper
chart as well! L was the snack person last meeting. We decided for
this meeting the snack person will be M. The next meeting will be a fun
meeting. It will be a little different than usual, but you all will

First Meeting September 2012
These first few posts I will get most of the information from my
newsletters. Then I will start posting real time:
We had a great first meeting! We did not have many girls but that is
okay. It was still early in the year and we had not had a lot of heavy
recruitment. We started off with introductions and making name tags.
We also began to make some troop rules that the girls came up with
themselves!
We began working on learning the Girl Scout Promise and discussing
what a promise is and why it is important to keep our promises. The
girls were sent home with copies of the Girl Scout promise to try to
start to memorize. Once the girls put forth an effort to try to
memorize this, they will earn their first badge/petal! The blue
Promise Center.
The girls decorated their folders that they will take home from each
meeting. They will need to be brought back each meeting as well. They
are laminated so they should last. New girls will have a chance to do
this as well. We will also be making a rotating snack schedule. I will
send out email reminders to whoever is the snack girl for the upcoming
meeting.

Overdue
I really should have started a blog in the beginning of the year, but I say better late than never! I will be updating what my girls do throughout the year as well as some ideas that I am cooking up. Things always seem to work out better when you write them down!
